The name Amethyst is derived from the greek word Amethystos, meaning not to intoxicate. Amethyst is the purplish variety of Quartz. Colors can range from pale lilac to the most prized color of deep purple, with flashes of red.

Amethyst was thought by our ancestors to quicken the intelligence, to protect the soldier and give him victory. Wine drunk from an Amethystine cup was said to prevent the drinker from losing his wits.
