Artist Statement

Looking back over my years I can see a few different experiences that led me to become a jeweler. The first being a small rock shop across the street from my elementary school; I'd go in after school and be amazed by all the colors and shapes of the crystals and gems. The next big influence was most likely the era in which I was raised; the music, fashions and technologies that came about during the 1970's were revolutionary through my eyes (for better or worse) and I continue to take inspiration from all types of music, film and fashion.

Fast-forward to the nineties, going to college in San Diego, I began to make some custom jewelry pieces for myself out of found objects and little toy trinkets. People liked my art and wanted some for themselves. One thing led to another and I started selling my creations at dance clubs and raves that were just starting out in Southern California. Again music and fashion were inspirations and it became "jewelry inspired by the 70's with a 90's flare."

After college I returned to the Bay Area and took a jewelry and metal smithing class at the College of Marin. I was now working with fire, bigger tools, and the possibilities seemed endless... and they are! After that first class I took a yearlong trip through Europe, visiting many different cultures and concepts. Spending time abroad would greatly influence my idea of art and jewelry.
